Hi, I’m Valerio Motta
I work with technology, cloud infrastructures, distributed systems, and fixing things. I build teams, handle complex situations, and bring stability and scalability where others only see chaos. I love understanding why things don’t work and finding the most elegant way to make them work again.
The beginnings
My curiosity for technology started thanks to my father. He used computers for work, but I wanted to know how that metal box could perform magic. In middle school, I used to take apart and reassemble my PC every week, experimenting with jumper-based overclocking like a little digital mechanic. Then, a fortunate encounter introduced me to the world of Linux, and since 1998, I’ve never left it.
Growth
I started programming in C and C++, then Java, and eventually found my natural place in backend development with PHP and Go. Over the years, I’ve explored Perl, Bash, and Python, sometimes out of need, sometimes just for curiosity. This path, sysadmin first and developer later, gave me a broad systemic view and the ability to always reason in terms of systems, relationships, and impact.
I’m a problem-solver by nature. In every company I’ve worked for, I’ve naturally ended up in leadership roles, not because I was chasing them, but because I’ve never been afraid to make decisions or to clarify the state of things when needed.
Today
Today, I lead the technology division of a solid Italian company in the shipping platform sector. My goal is to build technology that’s robust, scalable, and aware of the business context.
Part of my work is analyzing and managing technical debt, identifying where it hides, assessing its risk, and defining a progressive, sustainable recovery path that helps teams improve without halting product evolution. I believe technical debt shouldn’t be demonized but governed: it’s a signal from the past that helps us build a stronger future.
Beyond work
Outside the office, you’ll often find me fixing engines, working out, experimenting with radio frequency systems, or finding new ways to apply my technical skills to aquaponics and cooking. I love building, understanding, and improving things, whether it’s a Kubernetes cluster or a combustion engine, the principle remains the same: understand how it works and make it work better.
In short
I’m a technical leader with a strategic vision — someone whose hands are still dirty with code. I analyze and reduce technical debt methodically, build autonomous teams, and push solutions beyond their perceived limits. I enjoy creating real value where technology, methodology, and market intuition converge. And above all, I like making things work.
